Still "THE Door Company" in the Commercial Building Industry Bob LeMaster, a prominent Steel Erector in the upper Midwest, founded the original company in 1982 as "The Door Company". LeMaster had discovered that his erection company was spending tens of thousands of dollars a year on door repair and warranties and he felt sure there was a better system. LeMaster researched and experimented with various designs before he was satisfied. The Door Company was founded to sell the new Pre-assembled Door to the metal building industry. Preassembly is a system in which a commercial grade hollow metal door and frame package are prehung. Then all the hardware and accessories are added in the factory to the customer's specs. A structural subframe and adjustable mounting system are attached for the easiest and best installation system. Finally the whole unit is carefully packaged in a wooden crate to protect it from shipping and weather damage. In 1985 the name was changed to Dominion Building Products. Located in Elkhart, IN the company prospered and grew for several years. In 1998 United Dominion Industries acquired Dominion to be a strategic part of their Door Products division. The purchase merged Ceco Door Product's strong OEM door group into Dominion and together the "NEW" Dominion became the nation's leading door and window supplier to the metal building industry. DBP is now part of ASSA ABLOY, the global leader in door opening solutions. Dominion Building Products currently operates from 5 locations plus 2 sales offices across the nation.
